Dawnvale Conquers the National Three Peaks Challenge for a Magical Cause
On April 5th, an adventurous team from Dawnvale set out to push themselves to the limit, and all for an extraordinary cause. Taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge, the team aimed to summit the highest mountains in England, Scotland, and Wales, Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon, within just 24 hours, all in support of the incredible charity When You Wish Upon a Star.
Climbing for a Cause That Matters
When You Wish Upon a Star grants magical wishes to children
aged 2 to 16 who are living with life-threatening illnesses. Whether it’s
meeting their heroes, exploring dream destinations, or creating unforgettable
memories with their families, the charity’s work brings light and joy to those
who need it most. Inspired by this mission, our team knew this challenge would
be worth every gruelling step.
Gearing Up
In the weeks leading up to the challenge, excitement and
nerves ran high. As the team trained and prepared, donations began rolling in.
Thanks to the generosity of our community, we raised over £5,000 before even
setting foot on the first mountain. Custom team shirts arrived, bags were
packed, and spirits were high as the team headed to Scotland to begin their
journey.
The Climb Begins: Ben Nevis
At 1,345 meters, Ben Nevis in Scotland is the tallest peak
in the UK, and the first hurdle in the challenge. After a successful (and
snowy) ascent, the team descended quickly, with no time to rest. It was
straight onto the bus for a six-hour journey south to the Lake District.
Through the Night: Scafell Pike
As the sun set, the team began their second climb: Scafell
Pike. At 978 meters, it’s a formidable challenge even in daylight, but our team
tackled most of it in the dark. With headlamps lighting the way and
determination in their hearts, they reached the summit and were back on the
road by nightfall.
The Final Push: Snowdon
Sleep-deprived and aching, the team arrived at the base of Snowdon for their final climb—starting in the early hours of the morning. Despite fatigue and a few navigation hiccups along the way, they pushed through to reach the final summit, completing all three climbs in under 24 hours.
Mission Accomplished—and Fundraising Milestone Smashed
The team returned to work sore, tired, and covered in blisters—but overwhelmingly proud. With every step, slip, and summit, they were reminded of why they took on this incredible challenge. Thanks to overwhelming support from friends, family, clients, and colleagues, we not only met our fundraising goal, we exceeded it.
We’re thrilled to share that we raised an astounding £10,719.25 in total, including Gift Aid contributions. Every single pound raised helps bring joy and magical experiences to children who need them the most.
