Making a Difference This Christmas: The Mission Christmas Campaign
Earlier this summer, while planning our Three Peaks Challenge, we discussed which charity we would support. As always, our priority was finding a great cause, ideally one that operates locally. During our research, we came across Mission Christmas, part of the Cash for Kids initiative, and immediately recognised the impact of the work they do. We made a note to revisit it later in the year.
Mission Christmas has the goal of ensuring every child wakes up to a present from Santa on Christmas Day. The initiative encourages donations and fundraising to help provide gifts for disadvantaged children.
As December approached, we put our plans into action. A donation chest was placed in our reception area, allowing staff and visitors to drop off gifts throughout the run-up to Christmas. We even had some help spreading the word on social media, with Primrose the dog making a few appearances.
Our staff were very generous with their donations, but for a bit of festive cheer, we also held a Christmas jumper day in the office, raising an additional £80, which was used to purchase more gifts.
By the end of the campaign, we had filled a car with donations ready to be delivered to Mission Christmas’s main depot in Trafford.
Walking inside was a powerful experience. The scale of the operation was impressive, but even more so was the atmosphere. People from all walks of life were dropping off what they could, from one or two presents to vans full of toys, supported by a large team of volunteers working together to make it all happen.
While this initiative did not raise the same level of funds as our Three Peaks Challenge earlier in the year, delivering those gifts felt especially meaningful.
It was genuinely inspiring to see so many people coming together for a common cause, and we have already added Mission Christmas to our calendar, with plans to return as volunteers next year.
